Did You Know...

The meaning of the Word
The dictionary defines word in this way: "the smallest unit of meaningful linguistic communication." We all know what words are. But do you know that the Bible refers to the Word as a special type of communication from God? In the Old Testament, the term the Word of God is used 394 times to identify a message - a commandment, prophesy, warning, or encouragement - God spoke directly to humankind. The term includes the written form of God's message - the Bible. The Bible is called "the word of God" (Ps. 119). In the New Testament, the term is also used as a name for Jesus: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (John 1:1)
God interacts with us by giving us His words written in the Bible. His ultimate act of communication comes through the gift of His Son. Jesus - the Word, the Son of God - "became flesh and took up residence among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth." (John 1:14) You see, God's Word is His communication to you. Are you listening to His special message?
