4th (and final) Student Intros
-Sometimes it is painful to look back on my past and come up with answers for whom I am. I'll have to know my self in order to tell others who I am. And I believe the best way is to find out who I am through looking back and trying my best NOT to beautify my memories or experiences. I believe that it is all the decisions and choices that I made over the years, that allowed me to experience wonderful and horrible things in life. Those experiences make me, me. Before I begin my life story, I would like to say that who I might be shown to be now, might not be who I am in the future because I am still continuing to make decisions and experience the world. Now, let me begin with introducing myself in the present.
-My first goal of this lecture is to remove fears of speaking English. I will speak loudly as much as I could. The second aim of this lecture is to knowing how to pronounce correctly and correcting my mispronunciations. I hope my poor speaking will be changed at the end of class. I really want to be one of the passionate students in this class.
-I really want to construct a vision center which helps people to find their own purpose of life. I want to share the happiness of finding purpose of my life in the world. In my opinion, to knowing, "Why I came here, What Jesus wants me to do?" is the most important thing of his life. I really want to find people their purpose in this world.
-I lost about 8 kilograms in army and stopped smoking. And then I quitted drinking one year ago. Maybe it makes me look more youthful. Above all, the Holy Spirit gave me peace and hope.
-I have one sister who is 3 years older I am, but she looks so young. Sometimes it makes her angry. When she went to nightclub in 23 years old, a clerk blocked the entrance because he thank she is a high school student.
-Jesus is the most important in a whole life. Before I met him, I was in so much pain. There was nothing to be gained by doing anything. Sometimes I said, "I am a cursed person." I really want to know why my life is so bad. When I met Jesus Christ, I ask him, "Why do you come to me so late?" I know that my life must be a success now. I want to evangelize to people who don't know Jesus. Most of all, my father really needs the gospel. I know that he has lived a painful life because he doesn't know Jesus. I want to be a Christian who God is proud of - like Job.
-When I was the freshman in the middle school, I was the monitor in the class. But, when the students spoke loudly in the class, the some teacher hit me by the stick. Even though I didn't speak the teacher hit only me. So, I felt unfairness and I want not to be the monitor and I wasn't the monitor in the next year.
-I'm sure that more bad things which were about death happened to me when I was little than to other kids. When I was in high school, there was an explosion in front of my school and a person who was working on an overpass was flown into my school. He was dead on the spot and I saw his body with my two eyes. It was quite a shock for a 16-year-old student to take. What was worse was that around those days, my aunt committed suicide throwing herself out the window from about 11th floor. So maybe or maybe not, it was the very first moment that I started to get gloomy thinking about life and death seriously while other kids played outside.
-The feeling when I think about English is that first of all, English is obviously a difficult language for Koreans because English grammar is a lot different. For example, in spoken Korean, we usually omit a subject (or subjects) and an object ( or objects), if possible, in a sentence. Therefore, we don't say "I love you" but we say "love" which is a verb but that makes sense. What if someone says "Na(I) Nuh(You) Sarang-Hae(love)" and then they will probably think he or she is probably insane or drunk. We just simply say "Sarang-Hae(love)" as a verb. That's one of the reasons why we Koreans have a problem speaking English not because they are stupid but because everything in English is different. Learning English isn't like learning Japanese because English language and Korean language have nothing in common. And also there are many difficult sounds such as Z,V,F and R which are hard to pronounce. That's why I take this course, EPC. Even though English has a lot of difficulty, it is definitely attractive for me. Because I truly think that it's something like a magical path to another world. How on earth could I understand what you say, and laugh by your jokes, were it not for English? Speaking English itself is not enough, though. I know I need to learn how to pronounce accurately.
-My name is Han-na. This name comes from Bible. I heard that my parents were so pleased when I was born. My parents thanked God for giving me to them so they decided to raise me in his way. Among many people in Bible, my father likes Hanna the most. He wanted me to be like here, who is described as a prayer in Bible. I also like her and her prayer. The following is one of her prayers in Bible. "My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God. (1 Samuel 2:1-2)" I really want to be just like her in my whole life.
-I really want to go to Cuba. There I will learn Samba dance. So I want to dance with a handsome Spanish guy on the beautiful beach.
-This summer I visited Mongolia with my professors. They went there for the summer class. There is one international university in Mongolia. Some Korean missionaries founded that school. However, the educational environment is not good. Everything is insufficient. The number of professors in Bio-Tehnology department, in particular, is short. During the time I was there, I met many professors. They persuaded me to come again after I graduate and I promised to do so. So I plan to go there in my 27th year. After that, I will go to the graduate school. I want to study pedagogy in the master course. I think my vision is to teach people with love. The love is the one my Jesus showed upon the cross. My final goal is like that.
-Till the 1st semester of 6th grade, I was an ordinary Korean kid in elementary school. But with my father being assigned to work in India for a year changed my whole life as well as my parents. Since my parents knew that they would be coming back to Korea in a year, they gave me a choice between staying back in Korea with my grandparents or to follow them to India. And here I was, making a life changing choice. Did my parents think that I was mature enough to make such decisions or did they think that I would want to stay back to Korea? I still do not know. All I know is that I went to India as if I was going on a trip to Busan. At that age, one does not know the consequences that follow after the choices.
-The meaning of my name "Yu" is "soft" and "Hee" is "bright". When Jesus' words, "You are the light of the world" came to me personally, I was so glad because I realized that my name was surely expressing that very Word. The Korean meaning of "Yuhee" is "game-playing". It sounds very joyous and delightful. I love my name and its meanings. I know some people whose name matches very well with their personality. I would like to be that kind of person who defines his/her name.
-My younger brother is a freshman in Jeon-Ju National University of Education. He belongs to the School Paper Editing Committee. During this summer vacation, he volunteered to teach at the shelter of run away boys and girls. I'm so glad that my brother is on the way to seek and follow the Divine way for him.
-In the university, I belong to an acappella group which is named, "Girls" A cappella". A cappella is a song sung without any musical instruments. The harmony of the human voices is a very beautiful sound to hear. I especially love to sing in the praise team. When I praise God with my voice, I feel that I have freedom, happiness and delight. After that, I feel at ease in God's everlasting arms.
-In the fall semester, I took the "Creation and Evolution" class. On the middle of the semester, the professor said in one of his lectures, "Even if you believe that God has created the world as an actual fact; the textbook which you are learning still says that human beings have been evolved from monkeys. Thefore, the re-writing of the textbook should come first." I was deeply impressed by these words and I decided to work someday in the future.
-I decided to take the Christian discipleship training for 5 months. It involved a 3 months lecture in Canada and a 2 months field outreach in the Philippines. Throughout these months of training, I truly met God as my Father who loves me so much. I took this training in English with the Americans, and my English was very much improved during this period. I gained confidence in using English.
-I pray that God will show me the wisdom and grant me the ability to do my present responsibilities well so I can give Him the glory. I am optimistic about the future because I know that the Lord is guiding me along the best way for my life.
-The best moment that I met during my short life is the moment that I met Jesus during the temporary absence from high school. It was a little hard time for me when I left the school and my friends. During that time, I went to the library and ate meals alone and this repeated everyday. I felt so lonely, and I did not have any friends to talk even with my family. It was that summer I met Jesus personally. I joined a conference to promote faithful living with my church family. While I was in the service, I felt that Jesus loves me much more than other people who had loved me. From that time I became to be healed. He knocked my mind and told me that He loves me every moment. After I met Jesus, I did not feel lonely any more and changed to an active person to everybody unlike the past days.
-As time goes by, I entered Handong Global University and became a freshman. I met many good people here. First of all, I joined in DUDUS (Day Unto Day Utters Speech - a club studying creation) and learned that evolution which we have learned from elementary school is wrong, and there are a lot of evidences of creation. Seniors were enthusiastic about faith, and they were good people. I also became a MNEer (Mission aNd English member) in the second semester. I studied the Bible and trained praying. During the week, we (MNEer) went to an orphanage and taught them English. From MNE, I could learn how to be familiar with God and feel His love deeply. Also, we could have time for practicing the love that we were given. Both of the clubs gave me many lessons and chances to meet good people.
-After first year in Handong, I got another year off from the school for working for the church and the camp. I could feel working of the Holy Spirit and listen to Him when I led people to Jesus (actually, it was not me, it was Jesus). Working for the church, I could get a chance to work in a camp in the USA for ten weeks as a camp counselor. Staying and working in America, I met many people from different countries such as the UK, Northern Ireland, Australia, Trinidad, Republic of Czech, USA, and so on. They all had different cultures and thoughts, so I could learn and feel diversity directly from them. After working in the church and the camp, I became to think about the love of God and my future about what I should and will do. I want to found some schools to teach the children in undeveloped countries about the love of God and knowledge at the same time in the future.
-I am only 23 years old, and I did not live a long life. Through this short life, I have learned several important things. The first is that I have to believe in Jesus no matter how hard my life is and feel it is going wrong. Because He knows me and loves me more than I do, He will lead my life to the best way for me. The Bible tells me that if I believe in Jesus fully, I will never fall down into the darkness. The next thing I have learned is that I must not trust people, but just love them. Jesus loved me and forgave me from all my sin and I need to love my neighbors too. It is very important to practice the love of Jesus that was given to me. I could realize it through many activities. From that moment, "Practicing the love of Jesus" became the motto of my life to be a disciple of Jesus.
-When my sister prepared the University entrance exam, she was sick mentally. She was always pure and good-natured, but from that time she changed a lot. My mom was full of sadness, and I hated my sister. But, God changed my family through those sufferings. My mom got a great courage by trusting in God only, and God gave me the mind that I mentioned. God changed my dad also, he come care family and prayed to God faithfully. So, now my parents and I believe that my sister is God's blessing path.
-Almost all people who know me said that I smiled a lot. I think my smile face is God's gift for me.
-What is it leading my life? What is to be existed me? Why I was bear in the world, and what is reason to live? All people sometimes think about that. It is the basic and fundamental question. So I think about me.
-My dream is to be a person who loves person. I really want to love person like Jesus. So I have to understand people and care them. My major connect with this. I like to be a person who can share the love with others. I want to be a warm-hearted person. I will be a good counseling and helper. I think that it is my purpose to be created. I will make an effort to be such a person. It will demand a lot of efforts but I will keep trying to accomplish the goal.
-I believe and entrust to my Lord. He is my father, and he means everything to me. He created me and planed my life. So I don't worry about future. I just prepare for his calling. So I sincerely use my time.
-Frankly speaking, I'm not good at English. I feel that this lecture is adventure to me.
-My mother is a housewife. She is so beautiful. I have never seen such a beautiful woman in my life. She has deep faith. She always pray for others. If it has not been her prayer, there isn't what we are now.
-My final goal is to know exactly the Father's vision which is ready to me in my life. And I want to be a good man like Jesus Christ. I don't know exactly, but I want to be a sports marketer or a performance planner. Because I love sports, music, movie and play, I think that job fits for me. God hopes that I enjoy my job with talent which he gives me.
-I have learned English since my first year of middle school. I love English, but English doesn't love me. I can't stop loving you, English! Especially, I'm interested in pronunciation of it. So I take this class. I think courage is necessary to speak English well.
-I belong to Dunamis. It is a vocal ensemble society. We are all man except accompanist. But we are happy because we praise the Lord with happiness. Dunamis is derived from Greek. It is derivation of "dynamic" and "dynamite". It means the power of God. We sing his power, authority and retroaction. We have a concert on second week of November, I want you come and enjoy us and praise the Lord together.
-I like reading books especially novels. When I was so young that I can not read letter, my mother always read many books for me before I got sleep. I supposed that my mother's efforts makes me become to like books.
-My dream is not concreted yet. But I want to be a person who can be a present for others. For being that person, I should keep going into everywhere with God, striving to pray to God all the time, and hanging out others well. But frankly, it is hard to keep them all the time as it says and it's my agony.
-Most important thing in my life is the 2004 Jerusalem vision trip. Through this trip, I became to know God's dignity more than before and know more about God.
-In my major, I can learn about God's principles that makes the world. God is a very good engineer. He constructed all world, and makes all principles that make up the nature. By studying my major, I feel that people are meaningless and small and God is almighty because it is impossible for us to know completely about God's principle.
-In my life, the best present I receive is my parents. Their prayer do a significant effect to me to believe the name of Jesus. I do love them so much.
-My dream is to be a good engineer. I'm going to go to the undeveloped country. Most of those country's religion is not Christianity, so I want to do missionary working with my major.
-I studied English is my high school, because I wanted to read the Bible in English.
-Although some negative event occurs to me, I don't worry about that. Because I know that I will solve the problem well. And I am very proud of me because God is my supporter^^I can do anything with him.
-My motto is "The person who believes the name of Jesus is powerful." God is powerful and he is my supporter. If I am in God, I am powerful.
-My roommates get up at 7:00, even though they study until midnight. I am not a diligent but I learn diligence from my roommates.
-In teenager I started to believe in God. However, my lifestyle chagned and I started to be more kind and friendly with all the people. Now I am in Handong and I think I know more about God also now I Know what measure to take.
-My another hobby is talking with my friends. I enjoy talking to the others. Almost topic is "girl" I think almost guys talking about this subject.
-All my family members are Christians So on every Sunday we go to a church with pleasure hearts.
-The most impressing to me during performance of HanST is MIC (Motion In Christ). They danced splendidly but they are in God. They express by their body to praise God. There comes a realization. I wanted to dance for God. So I applied MIC and I am a member of it. It is tough to practice but I dance with joyful mind.
-What I would like to have as my future occupation is to get international job. For instance, working in UN, or to be a diplomat and so on. At this moment I don't know exactly what should I do. So I pray for my vision and my future to God. That's why I came to Handong Global University. When I was a high school student I thought that all my plans could be smoothly achieved after university student. But I knew that it's not easy thing. All I have to do is praying God continually, and do my best at every moment.
-My grandmother likes to hike the mountain very much. There's a vegetable garden at the middle of the mountain. She goes there everyday and cultivates various plants. Thanks to her effort, our family can eat fresh vegetables at every meal.
-My dream is to live in the heaven eternally. But I'm worried about my weak faith about God. I believe that the true faith is not to be afraid of death. Only depending on the faith that God will help me in any emergency situation. Although i go to church from early childhood, I don't seem to have strong faith to believe in Jesus Christ.
-I am from Cambodia. I was born in eastern area of Siem Reap Town. I grew up in the situation of the civil war of Cambodia. My district invaded every night by Khmer Rouge troops. I saw a lot of violent and crime when time when I grew up. 1986 my parents decided to move to downtown, where is the safety area. The state religion of Cambodia is Buddhist (passed by national constitution), so 90 percent of Cambodians are Buddhist; 5 percent are Christian; and others 5 percent are Muslim. I worked as an English Speaking Tour Guide (freelance) in my province for three years.
-I expect to improve my pronunciation and communication skill in this class. So I want to communicate my international friends easily in not body-language but English. We say Handong is Global University. But I am not a global person. I want to be global, so I want to go to the world to come true my vision. In Handong, I will be ready for my vision.
-I have mentioned my life briefly, and if you want to know me better, come and be my friend.^^
-My first goal of this lecture is to remove fears of speaking English. I will speak loudly as much as I could.
