Sunlin Hospital: Class 5 of 10

Last Friday (April 29th) was another wonderful time with Christ-minded brothers and sisters seeking to equip themselves for heading out on the mission field! That night we used another opening question which I had used in class, "Are you a Child of God? If so, what makes you one?" We discussed different answers using scripture to back it up. Finally, we focused on John 1:12 and the meaning of that passage. There is a lot of misunderstanding in Korea (and worldwide) what it means to "be a Christian". Going to church makes you about as much of a Christian as going to McDonalds makes you a cheeseburger!!! We continued answering questions (on flashcards) that people might ask them while overseas (with 1 Peter 3:15 in mind). The questions the students answered tonight included:
  • All religions lead to God, don't they?
  • Where do you think you'll go when you die? Why?
  • How can I know Jesus Christ?
  • What kind of hobbies do you enjoy?
  • What do you think of Muslims?
  • What kind of food do you eat in your country?
  • What kind of music do you like?
  • What makes you think Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven?

Tonight I was so impressed with my students ability to (when asked) quote scripture to back up their viewpoints in role-playing tonight. Like Kyung-Sook quoting John 14:6 without missing a beat and Taegun's great ability to explain the scriptures to "non-Chrisians"!!! (One would pretend to be a non-Christian asking one of the above questions and continuing to question them with more while the other imagined themselves on mission and trying to share their faith with them.) Most Koreans Christians I know rarely quote scripture and admittingly read very little of the word...I am really enjoying my experience with this group of doctors and nurses!
