"Soul Wars": Episode III....
Grammar Practice students, Byung-Hee & YuMi, suggested going out for a movie/dinner on Wednesday so off we went to watch "Star Wars: Episode 3". I told them that I often pray for God to protect my mind and reveal spiritual pollution in the film before watching movies. "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5) "This guy's over the top!", you may be thinking?! ha!ha! We'll let's look at some of the dialogue during the movie...
-"Fear of loss is the path to the darkside."...DUH! Jesus told us that some 2 thousand years ago! "For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it." (Matthew 16:25)
-They JUST HAPPENED to use "Code 66" as the code for the republic to turn on all Jedis and slaughter them... "This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666." (Revelation 13:18) .Hmm...Code 66, huh? Couldn't have chosen, "code 17" or "code 142" or ANY other number...but code 66.....interesting...(No! I am NOT saying that George Lucas is the Antichrist...just a very peculiar choice.) By the way, we could say that Lucas is an antichrist with a small "c" (not capital) as the Bible declares, "...every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world...even now many antichrists have come." (1 John 4:3 and then 2:18) And elsewhere, "Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist." (2 John 1:7)
-The "Emperor" says to Anakin, "There is only one who has ever cheated death, but if we unite together..." Hmm....Who could they be talking about who has cheated death....I know of only one! (Reminds me of a quote from the movie, "I-Robot" when the female cop says to Will Smith, "Men can't walk on water" and Will's character replies, "Well, there was this one guy...." (Nice!))
-Anakin (before becoming a pyscho Dark-Vader): "I've grown twice as powerful since I've met you last."
Bad dude retorts: "Twice the pride-double the fall." No kidding, fella! That's right out of the good book! "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." (Proverbs 16:18)
-In telling of a legend of a dark Sith Lord, the "Emperor" says, "Ironically, he could save others but himself he could not save..." Nice try, Lucas, but we know where you copied that from. (lucky for you it wasn't copyrighted, ho!ho!) That's describing our Lord, Jesus Christ, dying on the cross and the mocking of those going by: "He saved others," they said, "but he can't save himself! He's the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him." (Matthew 27:42, Mark 15:31, Luke 23:35)
-The last thing that really caught my attention and bothered me was the indirect slam on Christianity and the truth of the Bible. One of the characters says, "Good is relative." Then the quote that any Atheist would love to cheer: "Only siths deal in absolutes!" Unbelievable!!! Who could they be talking about, me wonders?! Who claims to know the TRUTH and the ONE WAY to heaven but Christians themselves. Hey, Mr. Lucas, if you think dealing in absolutes is the absolute evil then you might want to have a word or two with Jesus Christ who said, "I am THE way and THE truth and THE life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) Sounds pretty absolute and close-minded to me! Whether you agree with that statement or not does not make it any less true nor will it make the flames any less painful...(Mental note to self: add Mr. George Lucas to the list of those to seriously be praying for....)
