Handong Global University Spring Festival Events May 11-13

Well, one can't complain about a 2-day work week!! (Wednesday was actually a normal day-but few people have classes here on Wednesday. Usually just chapel)
This week in review: (from a sheet we got this week...Folks, I am NOT making this up!!!)
Always ongoing during festival: cafes and student work exhibitions are always open nightly after dinner in the student union building wings inside the classrooms. Also, the mission festival exhibits will be held in the dorm avenue area in front of the tennis court. There you can find various Christian organizations in booths sharing their work in developing world countries. (Best day is Thursday).
Friday is Faculty/Staff sports competition. Originally organized to promote good faculty and staff relations, the all-day event will be held in the High School sports field beginning at 9am until 5pm. Therefore, offices will be technically closed. Beginning with a 7km maration (course is usually down the school entrance through the rice fields and through the little village on the hill back to school). Then, they will have all day long competitions between functional groups. If you're not sure which team to join, just come and they'll put you on a team. Stay as long as you can. Lunch and snacks provided.

EVENTS:
Opening Chapel: We will open the festival with a single chapel service at 3pm in the canopy area behind the cafeteria. There will be a recognition of teachers and their work on behalf of Handong. We will praise God for another wonderful year. (Outdoor Stage)
Teacher's Day Event: Dinner for faculty provided by student body government in Hyoam Annex (unfortunately faculty only due to limited space). Performances and burial of the time capsule. Showing our love and care for our professors. (Outdoor Stage)
Three Girls & Three Boys: A team competition. Teams consisting of three boys and three girls to enjoy the festival together. The team who enjoys the most and participate in various activities with their partners wins!!!
Midnight Adventure in Chenmaji: There are surprises on the path to Chenmaji Lake! Never look back! (Next to Dorm 2) A scary series of tasks set in the hills surrounding the lake.
Dance Party: It's dancing time-Show your moves and teach us what talent you have!
(Student Union Building Basement level-dance studio)
More Precise, Prettier, and Speedier: Competition on various antics and special feats. Speed isn't everything when you need preciseness to win the contest. If not participating, come and watch your friends do the unbelievable. (first come first go) 3 boys & 2 girls within a team. (Participants have to be same professor team.)
Clubs&Band Performance: Wonder what student talent looks like. Come and see the best of the best Handong Clubs compete for moneys and snack food. Heated performances given by the school's very own bands and circles. (Outdoor Stage)

Awards Ceremony: At the end of the three day festival, the prizes and awards will be given to the winners of the various competitions. (Outdoor Stage)
Special Lecture by Ji Sun Lee: A lecture by the protagonist of the touching story "Love you, Ji Sun".

I think it would be better to write "Winning the lost FROM the nations" or "OUT OF the nations" but hey!-much better than last festival's slogan which was "THANKS GOD IT WAS A FACT!"

May there be many more to come!

"Be the Reds" (which doesn't make ANY sense in English) was the motto of Team Korea during the World Cup held here...so I think this is a take-off from that (?)

If you are unfamiliar with Romans 12:5 you might be thinking "HUH?! What are they talking about?!" when trying to decipher the meaning of the "open house" festival slogan here at Handong University May 11-13th.

Fellow worshippers at SIBC-The Wonderful Ohm family!! (Mrs. Ohm spends much of her time "battling communism"...really! not joking! Mr. Ohm used to work for the WHO (not the band! The World Health Organization!) and is now a university professor in Seoul. Dong-Hee was given the prestigious FullBright scholarship and is now finishing up his thesis. We had pizza together on Sunday with the An sisters)

Celebrating the birthday of my good friend and sister in Christ, An So-Yeun. (Happy belated birthday, So-Yeun!...May you find the "man of your dreams" this year!)
