Dear Faculty,The Pohang City Government is throwing a fireworks extravaganza this Saturday at the BukBu Beachside area. Last year, thousands came to see the 1 half hour show. It's one of the world's most expensive showcase of fireworks - sponsored by POSCO - expensed at $3,000,000. (That's right, the government is going to blow 3 million dollars in a couple hours. You're only bound to see this in Pohang.) You will see fireworks and fireworks technology at its best - I was there last year, and it was truly remarkable and memorable. There will be laser light show and music shows throughout the day. The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 7:30 ish depending on sunset. If it rains, it will be postponed to Sunday night. (But forecast is for clear tomorrow) The school bus will take passengers on an alternate route to downtown tomorrow night and Sunday night through the back street along restaurant row and then through Heung Hae. We recommend that you do not head through the BukBU area tomorrow night as traffic will be at a standstill for the entire evening. Getting there: You should take the school bus and walk the rest of the way. We suggest you DO NOT take your cars as parking will be impossible and moving out of that area tomorrow will be extremely difficult. Last year, our professor took 3 hours to drive five blocks to a main road. If someone can drop you off, that would be ideal. So if you plan to attend, please park at a distance, and walk to the area. finals, I decided not to head up to Seoul this past weekend. Talk about "
deja vue"! (
For you
French speakers, pardon the lack of "
accent aigu" and "
accent grave" on the "
deja vu"!) The SAME thing happened last year and I was stuck in traffic trying to make it to the 12:15 am bus to Seoul...never did make it. Decided to not even bother trying this year as it would have been
futile.
I wasn't really interested in seeing
fireworks this weekend. I enjoy lighting off
fireworks but not just watching them...Strange perhaps, but I never said I was normal! Reminds me of our own little
fireworks party some of us had last weekend on campus. I noticed quite a
few fireworks in a stationary store in the basement of the Express Bus Terminal in Seoul which were dirt-cheap. I
thought (whoops!) it might be
fun to try them out. They were pretty cool. I'll put a
few pics up for you but maybe I can get video of the different kinds and how they light off in the
future...
