"Coach Carter" for you non-Korean speakers...Good movie....BUT....

Coach Carter - Good Quote/Bad Theology...

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
When one first hears this quote it sounds good, deep, impressive...some might even recognize it from Nelson Mandela's 1994 inaugural speech but make no mistake about it, this quote comes from Marianne Williamson, a new-age lecturer/author.
"Come on, Relax will you! It's just a movie!", some of you might say. Yes, but it's sad how much satanic pollution you can find when you simply go to enjoy a movie.
It's very clear that this movie was an "MTV production". Loud music, sexual scenes galore, that "just do it if it feels good" sense and there's even a pro-abortion scene.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed parts of the movie and the OVERALL message, but saddened to see all the garbage mixed in.
More about the quote above...Make no mistake about it-Not everyone is a child of God. Only those who accept Christ as their Saviour. Let me quote Jesus Himself for you:
"You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me!" (John 8:44)
What is the "Truth" you ask?! Well let me quote Jesus again who said,
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Marianne Williamson!!!

This picture and the next one were from the "Handong Habitat club" which had a display room of photos during the festival. (www.habitat.org www.hfhap.org )

How does the love you display in your life measure up to God's love?!

Sunlin Hospital: Class 7 of 10

Friday night was another wonderful night learning English mixed with sharing God's word to help train mission minded doctors and nurses.
We started with our warm-up ?: "In your own words, what is love?" Students had a lot of great answers. We then looked at a cute list "The True Meaning of Love" (From the minds of children) Here are some of the quotes from that photocopy:
  • When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love. (Rebecca-age8)
  • When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You know that your name is safe in their mouth. (Billy-age 4)
  • Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs. (Chrissy-age 6)
  • Love is what makes you smile when you're tired. (Terri-age 4)
  • If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend whom you hate. (Nikka - age 6)
  • Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen. (Bobby - age 5)
  • There are two kinds of love. Our love. God's love. But God makes both kinds of them. (Jenny - age 4)
  • Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday. (Noelle - age 7)
We then looked at 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 to see the biblical definition of God's love.
After that, we listened to the 2nd part of Rick Warren's interview on Larry King Live. Students filled out a worksheet as a listening exercise. Here it is in it's full form. (Many of the answers can be guessed. Do your best and then check the answers which will follow.)

Funny sign on the way to Handong...It reads "Speed Fishing Land" but there is no real "F" in Korean and so it sounds more like a "P" so you might be able to guess how this sign sounds...and No, this is not a toilet!

Another beautiful day near Pohang, South Korea on May 14th, 2005 as the weather heats up more and more

ocean view on the drive from Pohang to Handong

SeeYar looking pretty cool on a friend's motorbike! (Don't report this to the authorities, but he doesn't have his license...)

WELCOME TO THE MISSION CAFE! or "O-seo-o-ship-she-o" as we say in Korean! (located temporarily in Hyoam Chapel Annex above Hyoam Cafeteria for the duration of the festival)

...

"Peace in the Middle East" or "Pieces in the Middle East"?!

Each table in the "Mission Cafe" had a flag and map of different countries within the 10/40 window. If you can guess the country based on the flag (and DON'T know Korean) feel free to click on the "comment box" and tell us what country we're looking at...

What is the "10/40 window" you ask? The 10/40 Window is an area of the world that contains the largest population of non-Christians in the world. The area extends from 10 degrees to 40 degrees North of the equator, and stretches from North Africa across to China. (This comes from www.1040Window.org Check it out for yourself!)

This poster says "back to Jerusalem" referring to the original spread of the gospel. "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8)

Eric kindly showing us where the gospel started (in Jerusalam) within the 10/40 window.

I'm not really sure how this relates to a Christian mission festival.....BUT then again, there are MANY things I haven't figured out!!!!

Nice map in front of the student cafeteria about a desire for revival in Korea but I'm not sure what the revelance of 1907 is about...any Handong students able to explain?!
