Chay Hiun (nickname "Yam") is a Jinju man. He enjoys playing computer games and a popular Korean game called "JoGu" where people kick a ball over a short net kind of like "foot volleyball", I guess. His parents own a SamGiupSal restaurant and his motto is "Money and girls are important."

Joong Kan (which means "Middle" in Korean and thus his nickname) is one of the friendliest guys in camp. He comes from HaDong city which I had never heard of before meeting him. He did his military service working in a factory which is not uncommon. He's really into motorshows. His motto is "I want to sing like Freddy Mercury."

Hiun Woo is a 4th year and will be graduating this February. He is from Pusan, Korea's 2nd largest city. He likes reading the comic, "Fireman", singing and playing basketball. His motto is "Do your best!"

Jang Ik is from Ulsan. He enjoys watching soccer but he says he's not so good at playing at. He also likes to play billiards and to go hiking. His motto-"Love everything".

Young Hyo enjoys listening to music and singing. He is also quite passionate about the hope of North and South Korea reunifying. He was a firefighter during his 2 year service in the army. His motto is simply "Don't lie".

Minju is a Jinju lady. She enjoys photos-both taking and collecting them and she also claims to love math. She also (interestingly) loves to watch wrestling! Like Young-Ho and Chay-Hiun she studies aerospace mechanical engineering. She is graduating in February and will enter graduate school. Her motto is "Time is gold so do my best every time!"

Seong-Yun, 25, is from Jinju. He enjoys surfing the net and he is really crazy about assembling cars and sports. His motto-"I love you". We love you too!

Jong Pa who insists on just being called "Pa" is from Jinju. He enjoys playing computer games and loves outdoor sports. His motto is "Shame is not necessary in my life." Pa was nominated and voted in unanimously as Class Captain! (Class Captains meet with the camp director, Daniel, twice a week to get feedback from students and such.)

Yong Won is from ShinChun which is just outside of Jinju. He enjoys collecting old coins and butterflies. His motto is "Smile!"

Do Hyun is from Jinju and enjoys inline skating and playing the piano (only been playing a month). Motto-"No pain, no gain." and "The present is important" Do-Hyun switched classes with Hiun-Joon and is now in Delta class. The good thing about it is that I get to teach "Hyun" again during the 4th week of camp. He is so short that his nickname is "3 heads" which is quite a different system of considering one's height than I am used to! ha!ha!

Hyun-Joon joined our class for the first time this morning. I believe that he is the only uni student who is not from GSNU. He happens to live in Jinju (goes to university in Seoul) and his friend told him about this camp so he registered. It was great getting to know him as we talked together during our 2 hour "outdoor activity time" today 4-6pm.

I tried to get all the middle school & university students in one shot but it just wasn't possible as there are SO many students. Each class is lined up for attendance at 7:15...if there are late students, there are always the popular group punishment methods of Daniel Lynds...

This is not the warmest weather to be jogging in!

Alpha class at 7:15am this morning all pumped up for morning exercise! (Daniel usually has us all run twice around the track after some stretching.)

The Doctrine of God - Love of God

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
Love is both an attribute of God and a description of His being. He alone is the epitome of divine love and the source of all true love. His love is unconditional and consistently seeks the highest good of the one who is loved.
Illustration: God's love was clearly demonstrated at Calvary when Jesus died for all our sins (1 John 3:1).
Application: Because God first loved us, we ought to love others as well.

This was my first "Workshop" during the camp. Twice a week each teacher gives a 2 hour workshop (4-6pm) on some hobby, topic or craft that interests them. My workshop (which still needs a lot of work!) looked at Dr. Martin Luther's King, Jr's life and "I have a dream" speech as well as Rick Warren's "Purpose Driven Life" to get students to come up with their own plans/dreams to change the world.

This great group of folks are from KAPPA Class. (The university classes are named after letters of the Greek Alphabet.) It's a little complicated but this class is part of a 3 week camp while about half the classes are on a 4 week camp. Workshops are a GREAT way to meet students from other classes that we otherwise might not get a chance to meet.

Perhaps the first lesson should have been on correcting the English on the classroom trashbin...

The students of Alpha class decorating their class on the 1st day of camp as they got to know their teacher and classmates.

Hiun Woo adding final touches as we finished up "Classroom Decoration" on the 1st day of camp (Mon) from 3:30-6pm. Each day is an intensive schedule starting with morning exercise at 7:15 am and textbook study all morning, the afternoon with more cultural types of learning activities and usually ending with journal writing at 8:20 pm each evening.

"Andy and his Alpha Angels"

My students for the 1st week of English camp: ALPHA class (university level). This is the highest level class of the camp! So far they have been a REAL pleasure to teach! Poor Minju as she is the only girl-but doing well! Almost all of these guys are mechanical engineering. We are expecting a late student (Hiun Joon) to join us tomorrow!

The Doctrine of God - Wisdom of God

"Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars." (Proverbs 9:1)
The "wisdom of God" is used in three senses in the Scriptures. First, it refers to the higher persective by which God understands things that man is incapable of understanding (1 Cor. 1:25). Second, it can refer to the understanding which a Christian should have in life (4:7). Also, wisdom is seen as a type of Christ, who is our wisdom (1 Cor. 1:30).
Illustration: When David said Abner died as a fool (2 Sam. 3:33), he meant that Abner died because he followed his own intuition, rather than the wisdom of God, which would have saved him. He was killed as he turned aside in the gate of Hebron. Had he entered the city of refuge, as God had instructed, Joab would have been unable to kill him.
Application: A wise Christian will obey the wisdom of God.
