"All of Jerusalem was moved"
"Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, "Where is he that is born King of the Jews?" for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. When Herod the king had heard these things, HE WAS TROUBLED, AND ALL JERUSALEM WITH HIM." (Matthew 2:1-3)
"And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, "Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. AND WHEN HE WAS COME INTO JERUSALEM, ALL THE CITY WAS MOVED, saying, "Who is this?" (Matthew 21:9-10)
"And as they went about to kill him (Paul), tidings came unto the chief captian of the band, that ALL JERUSALEM WAS IN AN UPROAR." (Acts 21:31)
It is very interesting to note that there are only a few times in Scripture that it is recorded that all of Jerusalem "was troubled/moved/in an uproar"". The 3 important events are:
1) the arrival of the King of Kings at birth;
2) the arrival of the King of Kings to Jerusalem only to be rejected by the nation hours later leading to his crucifixion; and
3) the arrival of Paul (who had preached that salvation was brought to the Gentiles through faith in Jesus) in Jerusalem at the end of his 3rd missionary journey.
Actually... There is 1 more time that "the whole city of Jerusalem will be moved". We can read about it in the final book of the Bible, Revelation:
"Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and THEY ALSO WHICH PIERCED HIM; and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen." (Revelation 1:7)
Amen, indeed!
