Pronunciaton Clinic (Section #1) meets twice a week. (Tues/Fri 1:30-2:45pm) As you can see from the sparkle in their eyes and smile on their faces, this group is a real joy to teach!

Student Intros #3

-All I want from this class is A+ grade. Sorry, it was a joke. I just want to get A. Joke, again. I hope to be able to pronounce any English words or sentences correctly by taking this class. Some words like "-ph-", would makes me dizzy enough me to faint. I also want to get to know more of you so that we can say hello and say goodbye to each other at anyplace we might meet.
-My dream is to be a radio producer. So, I am praying for what to do after graduation. Maybe I will study more, but I did not decide yet. I am looking for the God's will.
-In 1997, I have been to USA once. It's my first trip to other countries. This trip helped me to recognize that I had thought very narrowly.
-In 2000, I joined China Field Research group and I could visit China 4 times for mission trip. It was very impressed for me because I wanted to be a missionary. I still want to be a missionary for developing countries and I'm preparing God's time. In the winter, 2000, I also visited Singapore and stayed there two and half month. I stayed at a Korean missionary's house. I helped him and studied English there. Besides I could take trips to Malaysia, Thailand and a small part of Indonesia during Chinese New Year holiday. And I visited Thailand for mission trip again, in winter, 2002. At least I became a short-term missionary. I have been in Thailand for a year. I lived with Karen people (minority tribe in Thailand) in mountain village. There is a mission center like dormitory for children. I stayed there and teach 150 Karen children Korean, English, guitar, piano, recorder, harmonica, musical notes and Korean gospel songs. Now I miss them terribly.
-I really like learning foreign languages. I think it came from my father. My father also like it and he can speak 5-6 languages. I have been studied English, French, Chinese and Thai. When I was young I really liked studying English. (I still like it.) Last year, (when I was in Thailand) I, of course, studied Thai and I passed examination. (Now, I can be a teacher in Thailand) I studied Thai only for a year, but now I can speak, read and write Thai. One Thing I really sad is that the more I study Thai, the more I forget English. So, sometimes in my mind I am speaking English, but my mouth is speaking Thai. That's why I wanted to take at least one English class in this semester.
-This is my last semester in Handong. I have been in Handong for five and half years. I know the time I have to leave handong is coming soon. So, I'm thinking many things about my future. I don't know what to do, but I know what I have to do first. I need prayer. People who are praying have powers.
-When I was 17 I had this question in my mind, "Why I am play golf? Why I live? Who can I trust in this world?" As a teenager, I had these unasked questions in my mind. After I had all these thought in me, I couldn't pay attention and focus on golf. As my mind got weak my body also got weak. When I couldn't manage my self, God revealed himself in me. I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior.
-Since I lived with many different people in different places, I know there are many different people in the world. It was very hard for me to understand whole different people. I thought they are not right, they are immature (even an adults there are immature people) and they are the people who I don't have to deal with. However I learned each one has different background and different situation in their life those effects on their behavior. I also learned how I suppose to react or show myself to different people. I can usually see their personality after few minutes so I approach with different social skill therefore I have confidence dealing with anybody in the world.
-I didn't realize that my father really did love my family when I was young, because I thought his affection was natural one as a father. But then, as I grew up I have realized that not all of the fathers show their love passionately. Therefore now, my ideal type of my boy friend is just like my father.
-I set my short term goal for this year is getting a job. This is my last semester, so I will apply some companies from this week. Getting a job is important to me; however, the most important thing is living in Jesus.

-When I was an exchange student in China, I traveled several cities of China. It was really valuable experience ever. From that moment, I decided that I would travel whole countries before I die. Through different cultures, I can be more understandable and generous to other different people, so it was thankful for me that I had good opportunities to be in both United States and China. It really helped me to understand others and broaden my point of view to international.
-Saying why Jesus came to the world to people is my long term goal. I tend not to talk about him easily, but want to show his real love to many people who don't know his love.
-I am afraid of making mistakes when I speak English. To remove the fear, I took this case to develop my English.
-Most English classes give students too much homework, so I feel English is not a language but a task.
-My parents understand me very much and I can feel their unconditional love. I love my brother so much. He is very nice. I think family is like a bond which gives special comfort and love that couldn't get outside of family.
-My father gave me a name, Hosanna means that "O LORD, save us" and "praise the LORD". It was used when Jesus came to the Jerusalem on a donkey, the very large crowd shouted that, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" How wonderful scene is!!! I really want to praise to the LORD through all my life as my name. I get many advantages from my name. When I arrived to Canada, I had to get an interview for the length of the student visa. On seeing my name, the worker asked me, "Are you Hosanna?" So I answered, "Yes, I am". That was my entire interview. He gave me a valid student visa for a year. And he said to me, "Have a great time in here". It was not usual case. People usually get just 6 or 8 months. I am living because of GOD.
-My family name, Ho, is so rare in Korea. It's really hard to find the person who has the family name, Ho. My ancestor was a warrior. A long long time ago, when warrior did very good job for the king, the king gave the family name to honor his great work. So my ancestor got the family name, Ho. I could guess that I have a brave heart of warrior's.^^ It is true that I'm a soldier of the GOD.
-This is my last semester in Handong. I want to go graduated school in Seoul to study "operaton". I want to help others with love of GOD through my life.
-I didn't try eating cockroach but I'm one of risk lover, especially in food and new experience in other country.
-Except horror movie, I like to watch all kinds of movies. Frankly speaking, my mind can't enjoy thriller, horror like others. So I have never seen horror movie. When I saw the scary scene, I couldn't get to sleep. Before I go sleep, that scene keeps around in my head. When I was a middle school student, I saw the Batman. Penguinman and go dam city was so scary to me. That night I couldn't go sleep. After that experience, I didn't try any scary movie and when I could expect timing that scary scene will come, I close my eyes and ears.
-My strength is having positive mind. My mother is little worried about this but I like this character. I believe in Jesus who wants to give me strength and hope so how could I be negative? I also agree with my mother that I need more sense of the real world.
-I made my nickname before two years ago. There are some reasons. When I was in New Zealand in the year 2003, I realized that most of foreigner have problem to pronounce my Korean name. So, I decided to make new English nickname that anybody can pronounce easily. When I was thinking my English name, Eun-Tae Yi who is Korean missionary in Auckland, New Zealand suggested how about the name of Biblical character like Joel, Peter or David. And finally, I choose Joseph in the Old Testament, because he is my favorite person in the Holy Bible.
-Especially I am interested in human right for missionary, refugee and North Korean. When I was a freshman, I listened a special lecture in the HILS (Handong International Law School). She told me that 21st century needs Korean human right lawyer who is a Christian to work for missionary or people who are threaten about their lives because of their religious belief. Also she told me that missionary have a lot of problem about their human right, but there is nothing to protect their profit or human right. I felt that lecture moved my mind, and then I decided and prayed to work for them.
-I am very expecting the class "English pronunciation clinic". I have very strong Korean Gyeong-Sang dialect, so I have problem to have good, natural and clear pronunciation. I want to change my pronunciation more to be like native speaker."
-"Always be faithful to God" is not only my motto, but also the meaning of my name.
-My father is a professor at the Korean Nazarene University. He is a very strong person and has many expectations in my life. It is sometimes very hard to communicate with him but I know he only wishes the best for me, and I try to obey his word as I should when facing God.
-My sister and I are 7 years apart, and I know that life wouldn't have been the same without her.
-I have always liked to take long walks. This is the most comfortable time with God. Looking at all the big and small things he has created helped me look back at my carelessness and help me let go of my greed.
-Even though I am studying industrial design right now, after graduation I plan to go to graduate school and study children psychology. Even now there are many troubles in family relationships but after a few years later, when more and more parents go out to work and work longer hours, the children will not have time to get all the love they need. And with other reasons I think there will be a big need of therapists to help them, and I wish to be a help to them.
-I have not lived a very long life, but through this short life, I have made so many great friends and the influence they give me makes me a better person each day. And I know that in this world there aren't the same two persons. We are all God's unique creation and by making each meeting special I want to show some respect to Him.
-I am second daughter in my family and I have lots of family members. There are parents, older sister, three younger sisters and lastly two younger brothers. Like this, my family has nine members. Probably, you would say "wow" or "It is amazing". It is not the end. The children in my family have more than two years gap each other. So my sisters and brother are in various educational institutions from a kindergarten to university. Someone said to my family that it seems like a growth process of one man.
-Bible says, "In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps." (Proverbs 16:9) Like this verb, future is not mine but God's. Thing that I have to do now is doing my best in the present. It has thread of connection with my goal in my life living for God.
-I sometimes think why English is to be an official language. In the world, there are more people using Chinese than people using English according to jus the amount of people. There is Korean lettter which is known about scientific language between linguists. Why English? While English education has developed, I am afraid that people of non English-speaking world may regard English more important than their mother tongue. Protecting their native tongue will be the way of developing their country in an age of globalization.
-In Korea, people prefer boys to girls, and because my father is the eldest, it was normal to wish to have a boy than a girl. But they had prayed for a girl like "Esther" and as a response to that my mom got me. But my grandfather wanted to have a grandson, so they asked for a boy-my younger brother "Yong-min"--and we got him too. So he and I were born in 2 successive years.
-Our parents invested a lot of money for us to send to Europe. Even though I was there just about 20 days, I felt something that I couldn't feel from a comfortable situation and surroundings. So I want to share what I have felt with you. The first land I stepped in was Holland where people have no standard values. For example, they had SEX MUSEUM where exhibiting pictures having sexual intercourses with more than two people or even worse things-with horse, cows and so on. And some model of a human body doing strange thing. It was really disgusting. The described sex not as a beautiufl creature made my God words but just as a funny clown to enjoy. It was a land of sin. They made a "red-light district" as a tourist showplace. They were controlling tourist to think it's just a part of culture, and not a bad thing, under the name of "Relativism". When I was reading a bible at a Catholic Church treated just one of cultural assets, God made me to pray for the Netherlands. He told me that it's really important to convey a gospel to the world where they haven't heard about Jesus Christ, but also it is important to make people who believe God habitually to be renovated. And make them to believe in God. One of the decisions is this--setting up organization that teaches students how to think right, and lead them to the truth. This is also my goal and my dream I will do through my life.
-This summer vacation I realized the importance of linguistic skill. There was shop assistant who could talk at least 3 languages-English, German language, French. I was really shocked. In Korea, people think CEOs, politicians or someone in the high classes should know English but not necessary for workers at market or ticket booths.
-My strength is only God himself. He will cover my weaknesses like laziness, lack of memory, relationship problems, shyness and wrong self-sufficiency. And as God have promised me, I will be the blessed path. There will be happiness around me. Please pray for me...
-In early morning, exposing myself to the wind on the bike is very refresh. My heart is full of peace and happiness. I can feel my being and recall the memory of the past. For example, worry about identity in my school days, nameless longings of youth and the event that God gave great delight do I was unable to contain my joy in the rain.
-I was dreaming to be person who heals heart of people. Therefore, I wanted to be counselors. Besides, my close associates told me that you'll be a good counselor. For that reason, I didn't think about it carefully and this way is a way that I have to go. Now I want to be psychiatrist. And then I'll heal the mental patients. If I have some other dream, it must be living in Holy Spirit. God made a promise that 100-percent grace certain grace to me in Beijing. He will keep his promise. I'm waiting for that.
-I'm changing now. Because God gave his word to me and I received it wholeheartedly. It is an invisible change. I'm very delighted and overwhelmed with gratitude. Due to the fact that I'm in God's grace, I'm strong.
-I'm studying biology form this semester. It is a learning that very marvelous to me. In biology class, professor showed Bible word for us. The following is that word. "I praise you because I am fearfully and wondefully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." (Psalms 139:14) I love this word and will realize that to study biology. I discovered purpose of learning, now. It's praise about God's creation. Yes!
-My weakness is conceit by selfishness. It is sin of sins in the Christianity. I need repentance but it is very difficult. I have an indifference of other people because of my conceit. Other weakness is that fears about first beginning. This is very serious problem in present time.
-I have a dream, a wonderful dream. I wanted to be a person who can influence the world and people with God's help. I want to work internationally, having many relationships around the world. I want to glorify God with my best talent and possibility he gave me, I want to change the world and giving the whole nation to him only. So my first goal right now is to learn many languages.
-I have a big faith in my heart on everything I do. Like the verse in the Bible "I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me." I have faith in myself that if I believe I can do it, I can do it! I also like giving my love and interests to the people. I am still praying for my vision in Handong.
-My mother goes to a temple to worship and very hates Christian. She even will be opposed if I marry Christian. I can't understand her. I am also not a Christian, but I see religion as a culture and taste. And I make an effort to understand Christianity in these days. Yesterday I joined a group what study the bible. So far I don't believe a god and I only believe me. And my father said that man must tread the path of virtue. I always act as "I". I beleive that if anyone has their own belief, they can be a god. (It is only my opinion.)
-I swim at dawn in these days (swimming teacher is very beautiful.:-)).
-Do you know Lee NaYoung? She is a talent of Korea. She is a woman after my own heart. How about your ideal? I saw one girl like Lee NaYoung in Pronunciation Clinc Class. She is 21 years old and major is Life & Food Science. I will become intimate surely. Professor, please help me~:-). It's just a kidding.
-I am very happy because God will use me so that his kingdom would reign in this world. My life's goal is to make this world full of love before I die and to evangelize with Jesus's love to all the world. Although my goals will be hard to come true, I will not give up and I will use my job to fulfill my life's goal. I think that my situation, my property and my status are almost not related to the accomplishment of my life's goal. But I believe that my life's goal can only be fulfilled by God. I always hope to follow Jesus's teachings by using the little knowledge I have in my future major as a biologist. If I become a biologist, I will work abroad in a research institute. I will always tell aobut Jesus's love and Jesus's teachings in my time. I will serve my coworkers with true love. When I grow old and retire from my research institute, I will go to an unevangelized nation and share God's love. So I will teach science to the uneducated people and evangelize to them. I expect my future to be like this.
-I think English deserves thanks. Just several years ago, I was scared to use English, and learning English was fairly boring. But now I like English because it also helps me to be acquainted with foreigners.
-I quickly regret when I make mistakes. Of course, not committing any mistakes is better than regretting after making mistakes. But because I am human, I can't be perfect. God detests all committed sinss before repentance. So I obey God and ask for forgiveness. Many people in the world say humans should not show weakness and fall on the knees. But I think God uses the weak and the humble. This is the reason why my characteristic of quickly regretting my mistake is my strength.
-I like inline skating. Inline skates have four wheels attached under the shoes. I usually go inline skating once a week with my friends at school. It makes me excited when I go fast. However it is important to wear guard pads since I could fall and hurt myself. Therefore whenever I go inline skating, I must make all necessary arrangements for safety.
-I'm a non-Christian. So when I came to Handong University at first, was confused for handong's culture. But these days I am so free and easy. My change was due to handong people. Thanks to their efforts, I was more successful than I had expected.
-The most important job I ever had was as a being telemarketer. After I took the College Scholastic Ability Test, I started telemarketing. My work was to call customer and advertise internet products. I had to wear headphones and repeat the same message over and over. This was very difficult because people felt annoyed by telemarketers. But my job was also fun. When I sold products to a telelphone-order customer, I was happy and excited with my business success. Also I learned persuasive power. The job wa a good experience for me.
-My father is a good supporter to me. He has treated me as a grown-up. He doesn't want to tell me solutions. He points out me progressive ideas. Instead he always asks me, "Why do you think so?" & "What do you think is the best solution?". So I like to talk to him. He is the first person who informed of my mind. After that he tells his mind-It's not a solution, just his mind. I think his teaching method is the best educational method. Many other things make me to respect him.
-I came here as an exchange student from Mongolia International University in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. My teacher was very good person and he made his pupils understand the importance of education. He used to tell us the proverb, "Educated person is humbe, Big river is tranquil."
-Learning all courses in English helps me to communicate with diverse people and see the world through clearer glasses.
-I think myself as a lucky person, because my life has been wonderful with generosity of other people. I want to write my favorite word and motto "If we try to do with our heart, God will help us generously."
-This is the first semester that I have studied in Handon, and also this is the last semester. I only stay here for half an year. I am a exchange student from China. I study in Yanbian University of science and technology, my university and Handong have the exchange student program with each other every semester. It means there are some students here go to my university to study and some students in my university come to Handong to study every semester. I have many Korean friends here who I knew them in my university, and I heard it is a good envirnonment to study English in Handong, so I decided to come here as a exchange student even though only one semester.
-My mother has been a taxi driver for 12 years, she enjoys her job even though she works 12 hours a day. Most people think it is not a easy thing for a woman to be a taxi driver, she must be very brave. But as you know, these years there are so many women taxi drivers not only in China, but also in all over the world.
-Sometimes when I happen to meet a foreigner on the street, I avoid the foreigner because of an unexplainable anxiety. By attending this class, I'd like to learn correct English pronunciations and to be able to speak loudly although I may make a mistake So after I complete a course of study, I want to talk with my professor with ease. I hope that the professor will provide lots of time to speak in English and point out confusing pronunciations. I'm glad to listen to your lesson. Thank you!

U.K. "Religious Hatred Bill"

From the Lawyers' Christian Fellowship, UK (www.lawcf.org) about a new Religious Hatred Bill about to be passed in the UK that will greatly affect Christians right to share the gospel and even threaten religious freedom.
We request your prayers at this time - See below for details.
subject: TIMETABLE FOR URGENT ACTION ON RELIGIOUS HATED BILL

Dear friends and supporters,
In less than 1 month’s time the Racial and Religious Hatred Bill comes before the House of Lords. If the Lords approve the Bill, it will become law and freedom to preach the full Gospel of Jesus Christ may be significantly curbed for years to come. Despite Government reassurances the wording on the face of the Bill may mean that preaching directly from the Bible could become a criminal offence punishable with a jail sentence of up to 7 years.
Exhaustive information and expert analysis of the Bill has already been completed. The legal, political and Christian scrutiny of, and conclusions about, the Bill can be found in the Action Pack attached to this e-mail and through
www.ReligiousHatredLaw.info, at http://www.lawcf.org/lawreform.php (under Incitement to Religious hatred), at www.christian.org.uk and shortly at www.christianconcernforournation.co.uk. The LCF has prepared a 19 minute programme which can be viewed on any of the aforementioned sites.
The discussions have been held and the information has been shared. IT IS NOW TIME FOR ACTION.
It is crucial that every Christian in our nation is aware that IN ALL LIKELIHOOD THIS PARLIAMENTARY SESSION, AND THE COMING WEEKS, WILL BE THE LAST OPPORTUNITY WE HAVE TO POLITICALLY OPPOSE THIS LAW.
There will not be a second chance. Once this Bill goes through the Lords and is placed on the statute book, objections will be irrelevant – it will simply be up to the judges to apply the law in the courts.
If we want to stand up for freedom to preach the gospel, now is the time to do it. There are 4 primary things which can be done to make a real difference to this situation.
1) PRAY. Please pray for God’s guidance and hand to be over this entire situation.

2) RALLY. On Tuesday the 11th October 2005, the day the Lords will consider the Bill, there will be a political rally outside the Houses of Parliament The assembly point will be at the Old Palace Yard opposite the peers’ entrance to Parliament. We hope thousands and thousands of Christians will stand up on this day in unity to oppose the attack on our faith. It will take place between 1pm and 4pm and will be a fully marshalled event for which we already have police permission. The details of the Rally will be posted at www.lawcf.org.
There will also be a prayer rally in Hyde Park (most likely at Speaker’s Corner) on Saturday 8th October 2005 in preparation for the political rally. It has been pencilled in for 12:00 – 3pm though the finalized details will be posted on the aforementioned website.
3) LOBBY. Contact your local MP and/or your local peer. Do it in person if possible. If not, do it by letter, e-mail or fax. Full details on how to find your local MP or peer and how to discuss this issue are found in the Action Pack attached to this e-mail. If you have contacts in local or national media please use these as well.
4) PETITION. An e-mail petition will be circulated to which you can add your name. Please encourage others to add their names to it as well. Again details will be put up shortly on the LCF website.
PLEASE PASS THIS EMAIL TO EVERY CHRISTIAN YOU KNOW
