If the translators go much farther in revising and modernizing the Scriptures, they'll be having the 10,000 fed on a bucket of Kentucky fried chicken. (Red O'Connell)

Coincidence?! I think not!

As I was packing, I saw this handmade pillow-case I got from Ethiopia on my last mission trip. It really made me think about Genesis 22 (that's what the picture is depicting) and the incredible "coincidence" last Sunday. At 8am at Dunkin Donuts, I was talking with April about translations and mentioned how some scholars believe Gen. 22:8 is best translated "God will provide HIMSELF as the lamb for a burnt offering..." (which is messianic! "Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"-John 1:29) rather than "God himself will provide"...Some 3 hours later, during the sermon not only did Tim mention the same verse, (even though he was preaching on John 15!) but he also mentioned the very fact that many Bible scholars believe the passage is messianic! Wow! What are the chances?! I mean there are over 31,000 verses in the Bible!

The Doctrine of the Bible 2 - Means of Revelation

"God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets," (Hebrews 1:1)

God has revealed Himself through various means, such as visions (Isaiah 6), dreams (Daniel 2), poetry (Psalm 139), biography (especially the Gospels), sermons (Matt. 5-7), face-to-face conversations (Deut. 5:4), tablets of stone (Deut. 10:4), miracles (John 6), parables (Luke 15), inner compulsion (Acts 21:10-13), history (1 and 2 Chronicles), angels (Luke 1:26-38), historical research (Luke 1:1-4), and the person of Christ (John 1:14). His means of self-revelation today is the Bible.
Illustration: When God wanted Peter to preach the gospel to the Gentiles, He imparted this through a vision (Acts 10). Even then, Peter appears to have been somewhat reluctant to obey God completely.
Application: Today we do not depend on dreams and visions to learn about God and His will for our lives, but rather on God's revelation in the Scriptures. God did not impart the gospel to Cornelius in a vision, but commanded a man to go and preach the Word of God to him

"O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!" (Psalm 8:1, 9)

Legal Alien preparing for the Big Move...

This morning, a Handong University mini-van was provided for foreign professors to go over to the Pohang immigration office. Apparently, with all the illegal teachers that have been booted out (a good number being Canadian!), they are doing a sort of check-up to see if all the foreigners are here legally and if their diplomas and such are legitimate. Surprisingly, it only took a matter of minutes. A filled out form and a quick glance at our Certificate of Alien Registration card was all that was required!
Back to the university to get boxes from the campus convenience store/bookstore. We're supposed to make the move to the new single housing this Saturday. (Those of us who were lucky enough to be on the list that is...) There are12 single units of about 15 pyeongs. We did a "hat draw" for who would move where last Saturday. I really lucked out! I got the bottom floor and a corner pad! Yippee! Our university is so good to us-they will even provide a moving truck with movers to move any boxes we have packed up! So my biggest task is making sure to get everything packed up before Saturday. It's amazing how much stuff one accumulates after more than 5 years!!!
I've packed about 10 boxes so far and have at least double that to go! This has been, in many ways, a kind of "spring cleaning" of stuff in my life. It has also been a great chance to look back at all the incredible things God has done for me in the past 5 years. Well, back to packing!

Eternal Purses

Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.(Luke 12:33)너희 소유를 팔아 구제하여 낡아지지 아니하는 배낭을 만들라 곧 하늘에 둔 바 다함이 없는 보물이니 거기는 도둑도 가까이 하는 일이 없고 좀도 먹는 일이 없느니라(누가복음 12:33)

"The Good Samaritan" by Egino

Pastoral Letter (to "the Handong family")

Dear Friends! I'd like to express "great thanks" to all of you who have faithfully given to the people suffering from the disasters in Pakistan and Sri Lanka areas.

Our "LOVE OFFERING" was collected \ 4,386,000 total. The chaplain's office offered more to make it even at \ 5,000,000 and sent it to Rev. Greg Warehan (Former Prof of Handong who works now in Sri Lanka) and Rev. Altaf Khan (a Pakistan minister who works for the disaster area, and ...his son studying here at Handong)

"All our doings without charity are nothing worth."(The Book of Common Prayer)
Thank you for your generosity! May God bless your faithful hearts for the Lord and His Holy Work!
