In absolute AWE of God, His goodness & His guidance!

It was a real treat to see my old CUK (Catholic University of Korea) student as he was on campus to visit his cousin. Tommy (Jung-Hiun) has just become an officer in KATUSA (Korean Augmented Forces To the USA) and his future is looking BRIGHT indeed! CONGRATULATIONS, Jung Hiun!!! God is so very good!

Boy was I ever surprised to learn that my old student, Shin Jung Hiun (English name - "Tommy") that I taught years ago near Seoul at the Catholic University is cousin to my current Pronunciation Clinic student, Jae-Ryung!!! I "just happened to bump into him" on campus Friday afternoon. Just a coincidence?! Certainly not. God often does such amazing things to let us realize just what a small world it is indeed!

Here is one of my students (Jae Ryung from the photo above as well) in the university paper. She is posing for a "what's IN in fashion" type of picture.

C.C.C.-Coffee, Cake & Conversation

I really enjoyed talking with Ji-Yeun and Tae-Won ( 2 of my EGC students) on Friday morning over coffee and cake. This was also an appropriate opportunity to thank Ji-Yeun for her offer of coffee at the "Habitat for Humanity" club room during our last university festival. My students rock!

Pizza and Politics

Dr. Huh and Alex Bishop chatting it up while the dean of Academic Affairs, Kim Young Sup, and Jessica enjoy a few laughs behind Dr. Huh. "Laughing behind his back" without the negative connotation, I guess you could say...

It's chow time after Thursday's very important meeting (which should greatly aid the direction of our department in the next few years). Notice Lynn closing shop in the background after doing a killer power point presentation that took us through the history of the DLE department and the need for change.

Mike Stockton keeping his eye on things during the DLE Restructuring meeting Thursday evening. (complicated matters involving our department joining General Studies and other issues...)

Lynn's Birthday!

This was taken 2 days ago (Thursday, Oct. 26th) during Lynn DeVries' birthday. (No need to mention age, right?! :-) Diplomacy is remembering a woman's birthday but not her age!) Lynn has served for many years at Handong and has been a true blessing to the DLE department. A lot of her work goes mostly "unnoticed" but certainly not unappreciated! ( LtoR-Kirk, Chris, Tim, Lynn and Craig)

Mentioning "Unmentionables"

Oh, the difficulties in finding good underwear in Korea! Seems like all the mens underwear are in feminine colors like light blue/green or have funny patterns/pictures on them. Oftentimes, they are very "bikini looking" as in this photo and I'm often confused about just where the mens section is! The fact that the men in those pictures are often hairless (they usually just show stomache and leg regions) certainly doesn't help! As a language aside, male students usually refer to their underwear as "panties" and cologne as "perfume". (Not that I often mention underwear in class! ha!ha!) I tell them that it could get them a good whoopin' if they travel overseas and start talking about their "panties" and "perfume"!

Food for Thought

It is illegal to read the Bible in the public schools of Illinois, but a law requires the state to provide a Bible for every convict!
Don't worry, kids, if you can't read the Bible in school, you'll be able to when you get to prison!

This has got to be one of the strangest signs for a clothing store I've ever seen!

Human Dolls

Just about every department store has such women at the entrance who bow down to customers as they approach and try to convince people to come in on a mic (as you can clearly see wired up to this lady). This is in front of Youngsan Electronics store parking.

Fall is such a beautiful time of year in Korea. Korean stores are full of such cute pictures/logos/characters at this time of the year. (This picture was taken at Yongsan Electronics Market in Seoul last weekend where I bought myself a 80 gigabyte external drive. This market houses over 5000 shops in 21 buildings and prices run from 10 to 15% lower than anywhere else in the city.)

Davinci's TRUE intentions in "The Last Supper"

Of course non-Christians absolutely LOVE Dan Brown's popular novel. They think it actually gives them some substantiated reasons to avoid the truth of Christ's claims. They will be in for a rude awakening at the end of the Day... Leonardo da Vinci did not paint it with an intention of "hiding codes" as some would believe. The following well known story of daVinci shows his true passion and desire.
The great artist Leonarda da Vinci once took a friend to view his greatest masterpiece, "The Last Supper". His friend remarked, "The most striking thing in the picture is the cup". The famous artist took his brush, and with one strike wiped out the cup, as he said, "Nothing in my painting shall attract more attention than the face of my Master!"
A lady was mailing a gift of a Bible to a relative. The postal clerk examined the heavy package and inquired if it contained anything breakable. "Nothing", the lady told him, "but the Ten Commandments."

Seoul Railroad Station Plaza

Me in front of the old Seoul Railroad Station Plaza. This is Historical landmark #284. The station served as headquarters for all of Korean railroad transport services. (not sure what's with the look of attitude on my face...guess it was pretty early...)

Bible Reading

The Devil is not afraid of the Bible that has dust on it. (Anonymous)

Take one book at a time. Don't be in a hurry. Read a book over, over and over. God will give light. The sixty-six books are sixty-six battering rams for Christians to conquer Satan with. So we shall slay and conquer. Try different ways of studying the Bible till you succeed. My wife wanted me to like tomatoes. I tried them raw, with vinegar, with sugar, and cooked, but I could not eat them. At last she thought of another way, and succeeded, and I thought it the best vegetable in the world. (Moody)
