The Gospel in a nutshell!

The boys! Some Business students are selling these HGU shirts as a money-making project. They are selling like hotcakes on campus. (at only 4,000 won a shirt)

Some I-House members hanging out on a Saturday night: Amy (from Mongolia), Nafi and Razak (from Afghanistan), John (from Uzbekistan), Jordan (from the US) and Prophete (from Haiti)! Wow! Now you see why it's called "International House"! :-)

Eric & Bonnie at ChilPo Beach, Saturday June 3rd.

Eric and Bonnie (Soon to be Mr. and Mrs. Som!) at the rice paddies just outside HGU. They are leaving for the US on the 27th and their wedding is on August 5th! Please pray for their safe travel and the upcoming marriage!

A scarecrow like that is bound to scare just about anything away!

The fields have been flooded and the rice has been planted.

Korean pride flying high at the "ShabooShaboo restaurant" on Saturday. This is a picture of the disputed rocks of DUkDo (Do=island) which Japan and Korea have been arguing about for years.

Cement being poured for the foundation of Dormitory #8 currently under construction. They are also planning "Mission House 2" to be built before March, 2007.

What an AWESOME shot of the Wittman boys: father and son. Ephraim and his dad, Mike.

Sunday 8pm prayer group which meets at Young & Sarah's house: SeeYar, Daler, Jordan, Young & Sarah

One of my favorite Handong couples: Young Kim and his wife, Sarah. Young is the I-house coordinator and Sarah works at the DLE Department. They are quite passionate in their walk with Christ. One quick example-They arranged a collection and then bought a bike for a Muslim student who had his bike stolen off campus!

Tim DeVries taking advantage of a killer background!

Daniel from BukBu Church

Jeff (a Handong international highschool teacher) and his wife, MoonJu, at BukBu Church.

"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." (Psalm 46:10)

"I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead." (Philippians 3:10-11)

Thomas Duvernay and his lovely wife at their traditional Korean home about 30 mins from Handong. They invite staff and church members out to their home several times each semester for barbecues. That's Duvernay hospitality for you! :-)

Traditional Korean rooftop

A friendly Korean farmer who kindly agreed to having his picture taken.

The Doctrine of Christ - Kenosis

"But made himself of not reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:" (Philippians 2:7)
The word kenosis is the Greek word for "emptying" and is related to the verb translated here as "made himself of no reputation," which literally means "He emptied Himself." Christ emptied Himself by:
1) veiling His glory and
2) taking on Himself a true but sinless human nature, and
3) voluntarily submitting to the will of the Father.
Illustration: At all times, Christ remained God, retaining the nature and attributes of God, but taking a human nature in order to have a ministry among men. On the few occasions when His glory was more fully revealed during His ministry, those who saw it were unable to bear it (Matt. 17:6; John 18:6).
Application: The apostle Paul urges that the attitude of humility (which led to kenosis) ought to characterize every Christian.
