Carrie, the car, the clutch and Chaos!
"The driving is like that of Jehu son of Nimshi-he drives like a madman." (2 Kings 9:20)
That might be an appropriate verse to open with in describing the unusual situation I found myself in today...
The Famas picked me up at 9am (Carrie was in the backseat with Joanna as she would be driving the car back to Handong...) and we got to the airport around 10:20am. We didn't have much time as their boarding time was 10:40. The Famas gave their car (which was given to them by Greg Wareham when he left) to Carrie. The thing is that Carrie hadn't driven a stick shift in a LONG time...I thought she was just being humble and all (you know, a nice modest Christian girl and all, ha!ha!) but I didn't realize the honesty of it all till we got in the car...
It took us ("us"? :-)) 10 minutes to start the car. I can't even count the number of times we stalled out on the way back! It was a great laugh though, I must admit. Carrie has the sweetest disposition. Whenever the car stalled, she'd say "sorry" as if the angered mobs behind us could hear her as she struggled to get the car started again! I nearly peed my pants! THANK GOD we never stopped in the very heart of any intersection!!! All in all, I think I will give Carrie a few weeks of practice before even thinking of getting into her car again. Oh, the memories!
