The Final Scene of "Chun Hyang Song" when the 2 long-lost lovers are reunited. I'm still not sure how Handong University sees this as "outreach" as the only "gods" mentioned during the whole play were "the gods of rivers and trees"...Hmmm...not sure how God is to be glorified here.

Outreach, my foot!

Disturbing things from the "Chun Hyang Song" production:
from playwright-composer, William Cleary:
"May the energies of Creativity fill you all with inspiration for a successful play now and in the future, as it did so long ago in 1965. I also include deep gratitude and congratulations to Handong Global University. In their support of this production, they demonstrate their passionate commitment to art works of high purpose.
The story itself is a tribute to the nobility of traditional Korean culture. High expectations are found in the hearts of Korean mothers and grandmothers-all parents in fact. Therefore they love to tell their children Confucian stories like that of Chun Hyang. She is an icon of the highest faithfulness exhibited by a wife toward her husband.
The whole earth community benefits when women are discovered and praised for their heroism. The special caringness of Mother Earth is part of women's particular gift to the human race, and a strong spirit like Chun Hyang's is the best promise we humans have that our environment can be honored ans saved for the survival of us all.
Could inspiration empower us for as long as a hundred years? Of course. That's only a touch of love. Much more is possible, and even inevitable.
Spring Song for Dano:
"Why do spirits of rivers and hills so possess me today? Why only once, only once in the year, Do I find myself feeling this way?"
The most disturbing part of the play was when the fortune teller came out to tell the heroine of the story her future and said, "Our tragedies in life are sins from previous lives which must be atoned for." The sad thing is that this play, which even praised "the benevolent Buddha", was performed in Hyoam Main Chapel, on the very stage where our Lord Jesus Christ is praised every Sunday morning....
"Be careful to do everything I have said to you. Do not invoke the names of other gods; do not let them be heard on your lips." (Exodus 23:13)
"The sorrows of those will increase who run after other gods. I will not pour out their libations of blood or take up their names on my lips." (Psalm 16:4)

Our last Wednesday Bible study for this semester.

Now this is a much better picture! What a GREAT group of searchers of God's heart! I will certainly miss our Wednesday Hashim Bible Study.

Glenn A. Jent who was the speaker at last Wednesday's English chapel. He gave a powerful message on "What kind of runner are you?" from 2 Sam. 18:19-33. Glenn is the Program Director at Torch Trinity Graduate School of Theology in Seoul.

Roy Henk leading his team in Israeli dancing at chapel last Wednesday. I appreciated his reminder that the Old Testament is filled with Jesus' name. Basically, whenever you read "salvation", read "Jesus" as Jesus' Hebrew name is "Yoshua"=salvation.

The Doctrine of Christ - Incarnation

"And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." (John 1:14)
The term incarnation refers here to the miracle of God the Son becoming human, yet remaining God. John summarizes this miracle with the expression "the Word was made flesh". The term Word is a title of deity used by John to describe Jesus. The term flesh speaks of Christ's humanity.
Illustration: To deny either the deity or humanity of Christ is to deny the very nature of the God-man.
Application: Even in New Testament times there were people with the spirit of antichrist who denied truths concerning the Lord (1 John 2:18). The Christian response to such individuals is complete separation (2 John 7-11).
